Dr. Mark Sherman
Founder & Co-chair
Mark is a orthopedic surgeon and former college basketball player. One day as Mark was going to pick up his son from basketball practice, he noticed all the players were outside waiting for their buses, but they weren’t standing together. The black kids were all on one side and the whites on the other. He said, “I don’t think these kids ever get together except on a basketball court. That’s not how it’s supposed to work.”
Jacob Carey
Founder & Co-chair
Jacob is a surgical technologist who also played college basketball and played professionally overseas. He felt that if young people could interact with one another, especially those who rarely do outside of school, they would learn their differences are not as important as their commonalities.
